Community Maternal and Child Health Service Promotion in Villages

For Healthier Life in Cambodian Villages
Community Maternal and Child Health Project in Svay Antor Operational District Area: Svay Antor Operational District, Pray Veng Province Pop. 210,000 (Approx. 90 km to the east of Phnom Penh, about 3 hours land travel) In 2008, SHARE started its activities in Prey Veng Province, one of the provinces faced by severe maternal and child health problems. Because of a shortage of medical facilities and human resources, people have limited access to adequate health services, and therefore, many children contract preventable diseases and have to be sent to expensive hospitals in the city after their conditions deteriorate. In order to ameliorate this situation, SHARE promoted the construction of "Health Centers," or public health facilities, which are expected to function more adequately as the key in community health, and to render early discovery and diagnosis of abnormalities. SHARE focused on "infant health screening," aiming at improving children's health, and supported the cooperation of Health Centers and Health Volunteers in their efforts to offer better health services to the villagers. The Maternal and Child Health Promotion Project (the third year) in the health administration community in Svay Antor Operational District is supported through Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects.
